The State Electronics Challenge (SEC) encouraged state, tribal, regional, and local governments, including schools and other public entities, to responsibly manage office equipment, by:
- Purchasing greener office equipment.
- Reducing the impacts of these products during use.
- Managing obsolete electronics in an environmentally safe way.
The SEC provided resources to assist organizations in the public sector, as well as private schools and colleges, who sign up as “Partners” to become leaders and address the challenges posed by electronics.
Who Participated in the Challenge?
Any public sector entity, as well as schools, colleges, and universities, can participate in the SEC. These include:
- State & Tribal agencies
- Cities & towns
- Counties
- K-12 schools
- Colleges & universities
- Public utilities
- Public libraries
- Municipal solid waste authorities & districts
- Non-profit organizations
